PESHAWAR, “Pakistan—The (Pakistani) government agreed to impose Islamic law and suspend a military offensive across a large swath of northwest Pakistan on Monday in concessions aimed at pacifying a spreading Taliban insurgency there.”
Great. Just what the world needs, more Taliban-style oppression and misery imposed on a population. Admittedly, I don’t feel much sympathy for those tribal dregs of humanity, but what the Pakistan government has done is to give the Taliban and Al Qaeda a large area to operate in that will be safe from attack from without.
This is because any raids by us on them inside this area will be proscribed by Pakistan. Pakistan is rated the number one most unstable nation on Earth (Mexico is number two) because of the increasing militant Islamism that’s taking over the country at the same time that Pakistan is armed with atomic bombs, and their government has been working a balancing act for years, fighting with India over control of Kashmir, keeping the Islamist groups like Al Qaeda and the Taliban as well as various warlords from gaining too much power and control of the country, and therefor the nukes, and keeping the West, very much including the United States, happy so the aid money keeps flowing in.
The Islamists have blown up the route we were using through the Khyber Pass in Pakistan to get troops and supplies into Afghanistan, after deciding that attacking our convoys wasn’t working. So now we’re making a deal with the Russians for a route through their territory and Pakistan is getting closer and closer to being overrun by violent Islamists, their government is steadily crumbling and our willingness to back off and let them fight the Islamists is steadily waning.
Likewise, our popularity in Pakistan is about nil due to both our attacks on the Islamists in an Islamic country as well as non-stop virulent propaganda against us in their mosques.
If the Islamists win out in Pakistan, all the current government leaders will be murdered, and they know it. Worse, for the world, those fanatics will have control of about an estimated 25 to 40 A-Bombs. Before that happens, India will very likely attack with her troops and possibly with nuclear weapons, timing her strike at the moment when Pakistan is most disorganized and confused. The big question is, which way is this all going to go? Will the nukes stay out of the hands of fanatics, or will they not?
I see only two possible ways for the current leaders of Pakistan to save their skins. The first would be to allow Indian and US troops to freely enter Pakistan to deal with the fanatics. This is extremely unlikely, considering the certain reaction of the population to this invasion.
The second is for Pakistan to use a few of its own A-Bombs on the infested areas and wipe out the Taliban and Al Qaeda, along with those pesky tribal warlords, in one fell swoop. The story would be that the bombs must have come from Iran or one of the other rogue nations that Pakistans own Abdul Qadeer Khan, top nuke scientist, sold the secrets of bomb making to.
One way or another, Pakistan is set to implode with a violence that could ignite war throughout the Middle East if this situation isn’t dealt with severely and soon.
