Janet Napolitano, 51, is President Obama’s new Homeland Security Secretary. She spoke with SPIEGEL ONLINE INTERNATIONAL about immigration, the continued threat of terrorism and the changing tone in Washington.
SPIEGEL: Madame Secretary, in your first testimony to the US Congress as Homeland Security Secretary you never mentioned the word “terrorism.” Does Islamist terrorism suddenly no longer pose a threat to your country?
Napolitano: Of course it does. I presume there is always a threat from terrorism. In my speech, although I did not use the word “terrorism,” I referred to “man-caused” disasters.
Political Correctness is more important than truth to the new Homeland Security Secretary? She can’t say “Islamic terrorism” unless her fingers are held in the candle flame?
Welcome to Obama’s “Change”. It’s called “New Speak”. If anyone listened to his latest recitation off a teleprompter, he’s offered a “new beginning” to Iran and spoke in very conciliatory tones. Irans response was to bluster and bully as usual and the only good I can see coming out of his promised diplomatic approach is that after they’ve wrung all the insults out of this that they can toward him, Obama may finally see the light. The only way to deal with Islamists is to stomp them flat.
In the meantime, it looks like PC for Muslims is the order of the day by finding other names for Islamic terrorism besides saying “Islamic”, and by calling acts of terrorism “Man-caused disasters”.
Muslims aren’t to be hated or derided. They’re victims of a horrible, hateful and murderous doctrine and should be looked on as criminally insane and treated in that fashion. Perhaps one day more leaders than just Geert Wilders and a few others will have figured that out.
Being a Muslim is like growing up in a ghetto gang. Defending your turf is all you know and it’s a hard thing to break away from. Many gangs are just like Islam, if you leave them you get killed for it.
The truth needs to be told about Islam. This is not the time for Politically Correct speech.
Hear, hear Mr Sheep. I must admit that a year ago I thought you were rather extreme on the subject. Now I have got round to realising that you were right and I was wrong. Islam is by far the greatest threat we face.
