Tenants Suck

People who rent the places they live in, suck. No doubt any of my vast horde of loyal readers who rent are exceptions to this, but all the rest of them suck. Being a landlord is a form of self-torture so Machiavellian, so depravedly masochistic that we must love agony to continue to indulge in it year after year.

People who buy their homes tend to take much better care of them than people who merely rent them. Of course. They have an investment and they want to protect it. Renters, on the other hand, leave trash everywhere, break everything possible to break and then either never fix it or try to get the landlord to fix it, usually by lying about how it got broken. They skip out without giving notice or paying the rent. The needed repairs always exceed the damage/security deposit, and usually dramatically so.

They sell off the appliances, stove, refrigerator and so forth, just prior to absconding in the night. They get cats that piss and shit everywhere in spite of the No Pets in their lease, they spill liquor and beer everywhere, burn holes with cigarets, destroy the carpet and drapes, leave the refrigerator (if it’s still there) half-full of rotting, moldy garbage. They leave several months worth of trash and garbage piled up in the corners. They accumulate dead, junk vehicles in the driveway that spill over into the yard.

They fight amongst themselves and then take their troubles to the landlord, as if he had something to do with them or was Official Mediator. They make demands that the landlord take this or that action against their co-tenant. They create ill-will with their neighbors, who then complain to the landlord, who is then often visited by the police who make demands of their own.

People who have integrity and a sense of direction, buy their own homes and take pride in ownership. Not Renters. Renters use drugs, drink too much and are often outright alcoholics, at least half their friends are worthless, hanger-on assholes, they go from job to job, drive an old car, are probably on welfare or have conned their way into getting disability checks, have a lot of credit card debt, take advance draws on their paychecks every week, practice unsafe sex with strangers at every opportunity, probably have at least one warrant out for their arrest for everything from unpaid parking tickets to God knows what else, pick their noses in bed and wipe the boogers on the wall, flush disposable diapers down the toilet and expect the landlord to fix the clogged pipe, and pretty much just generally SUCK.

So true. Except for us renters who have their own home but have to sometimes live away on contracts. We are fabulous.

    ha ha ha so funny.
i am a renter but fortunately my landlord is sort of family, though i have seen the flats and houses that have been rented out and the worse tennents are without doubt students, medical students they are the foulest of all. the only way to get around it is to vet your tennents demand a massive deposit and check up on them regulary.

Thank you for reminding me. I did the landlord thing over 25 years ago and swore it would never happen again. I just bought a retirement home in the Redneck Riviera and with the recent downturn in the housing market I was considering renting out my home in California while waiting for an upturn in the market. Even though my home has lost considerable value in the past 3 years, it’ll still easily sell for considerably more than I paid for it over 30 years ago. I paid it off 15 years ago so it’s a win/win for me either way. Visiting the local lumber yards and exploring the costs of repairs to the likely damage I’ve learned from personal experience a renter will do, I would be better off to just sell it now though the market is in the toilet.

Hahaha, although I have rented in the past and was a rare, responsible tenant…I can’t help but chuckle at the sad, honest truth to this. We recently decided to rent our home because we are being moved by the military in a few months. No matter how much we did “right”, our dream tenants, our model family morphed into devious heathens the moment they were handed the keys. From day one, it’s been sob story after heartbreaking tale- all BS I’m sure, in what I suspect was an attempt to soften us up for the impending nightmare that ensued. The husband’s work direct deposited his paycheck into someone else’s account and it would take 2 weeks to recover the funds. 20 yr old son who isn’t on the lease fell down the stairs while moving his belongings in and they wanted the deposit back to take him to the ER. Uhm, no. The day after they were given the keys, the ex-spouse of the wife showed up drunk and busted out all of the windows on their vehicles, I drove by and saw nothing wrong with the cars, but that’s why they didn’t pay rent the 2nd month. Their lies don’t even make sense. These professional, well paid people have paid us a total of $1380.00 of the $4000.00 due since 1 Sep, it is now Nov and we have no rent for this month either. No PETS! was agreed upon in the lease, but they have 3 expensive exotic birds (I’d rather have a dog in the house)- found that out last week…The woman has told all of the neighbors that she bought our house for $110K, when it was listed at $240K…she also sent me a thank you card for “giving” her such a wonderful home and that she’s so exicted to grow old in “her” new home and “thank you so much” for giving her family roots. It’s a 12 month lease with no option to buy. When I reminded her of that, she replied “well, this house has such a unique warmth, I feel like it’s been made for me, I’m going to buy it from you next year”. Great, I’ve got a psycho…who doesn’t pay rent. I have started a notice for 3 day pay or quit…how disappointing, I don’t want to deal with this hassle. We had them professionally screened, they have great jobs, seemed so nice and respectable. WHATEVER. Wish I read this 3 months ago :-)

I am a landlord and have been completely screwed over so many times by bad tenants. I literally find myself working two jobs to pay for all the worthless pieces of shi# people in this world that seem to think that they deserve everything despite contributing nothing to society. I would get out of being a landlord, but all the worthless, POS people of this world who refuse to take responsibility for being nothing but worthless drains on society bought houses when they shouldn’t have and have now walked away from their mortgage obligation while those of us with the decency to keep paying despite losing money every month foot the fuc**ing bill. Fu** you you fuc**ng tenants. You all fuc**ng suck. Die and rot in hel*.

I am a responsible tenant who is in the process of beautifying his home more than the previous tenants or even the landlord himself. In fact my family is quieter than most other owners on my block. They all have loud parties and act obnoxious, but I guess in Your narrow minded world view they have the right to be assholes because they own right?

F*** you you self righteous blah blah blah. (Pointless insulting cuss words edited out. Hey, it’s my blog.)

  8. Black Sheep says:

Now that was spoken like a true mental defective. He is a responsible tenant, therefor all tenants are responsible and all owners are obnoxious slum lords. Talk about being narrow-minded and self-righteous. What a jerk. He should try sub-letting his wonderfully maintained apartment and see what happens when a tenant takes over.
