In the Mexican town of Matamoros, right across the border from Brownsville, Texas, is a prison. Right now, the inmates of that prison are busily killing each other off and yes, it’s about drugs. Even in the Mexican prisons they kill each other over which gang controls the drug trade.
This gives me a great idea. Make a contest out of it, like a TV reality show, where only one person wins wealth. Give them all basic weapons, knives, baseball bats, spears, stuff like that, and give the last one alive at the end of the slaughter his freedom, a chunk of money, some land with a nice home, and a decent life’s pension, with the stipulation that if the winner goes back to a life of crime, he get thrown against a wall and shot, with no reprieve.
Then do this in all the Mexican prisons. Every time a prison gets emptied this way, drag out the bodies, hose the place down, fill it up with a fresh batch of prisoners and do it again. If the prize package for the winner is attractive enough, Mexican criminals will be killing each other off just for the chance to go to a prison and try for the prize. I’m not joking.
The reason so many Mexican males join up with drug gangs is to escape their grinding poverty. They do this in spite of the fact that an average of 7000 of them have been killed by each other every year for the past four years. The risks are very high and the chance of survival is very low, but they get paid and can feed their families and that’s enough to make it worth killing and being killed. If you offer them a chance to become truly rich in Mexican terms, they’ll take it. What the hell, there’s a good chance they’ll die anyway and leave their families nothing, so at least this way they have a chance of making good. They’ll do it and in so doing will rid us and Mexico both of the lowest element of Mexican society.
Not counting all the Mexican politicians, of course. For them we have to find a different solution.
The older one gets the more one realises that men are just animals, every thing we do is driven by instinct, basic survival. Interesting article here:
