Head Butting Time

The Department of Justice ( DOJ) says it won’t prosecute Attorney General Holder over ‘Fast and Furious’, forcing a civil suit as a last resort to get the papers that Obama has claimed Executive Privilege over and  that Holder refuses to release.

So Governor Rick Scott of Florida, the state that led the fight against President Obama’s health care law, said that he won’t comply with the Supreme Court opinion and will not implement any of its conditions including expanding Medicaid.

Part of the Affordable Care Act sought to dramatically expand Medicaid to cover more uninsured Americans. On Thursday, the Supreme Court decided that states that refuse to comply won’t lose all existing Medicaid funds as Obama had threatened. Instead, they just won’t receive any additional funds.

Further, he says that other Republican governors like Scott Walker of Wisconsin, Rick Perry of Texas and Bobby Jindal of Louisiana are with him. That’s four states and more may follow. The Affordable Care Act requires states to set up health care benefits exchanges to help Americans buy insurance. If a state fails to act, the federal government will operate that state’s exchange program. These exchanges are required to be up and running by Jan. 1, 2014, so there’s about a year and a half to repeal ObamaCare so the law will never take effect. To do that, Romney needs to be elected.

Gov. Scott said that Medicaid has been growing at three-and-half times the state’s general revenue and implementing ObamaCare would increase Florida taxpayers load by another $1.9 billion, more than Florida’s declining economy can afford to support. Remember, it is also Florida that Obama was suing to stop them from taking illegals off the voter rolls, and Obama was shot down by the Supreme Court.

We need more state governors to push back against Obama’s imperialistic efforts at dominance by using Federal authority to override states Constitutional rights. Every state that joined the Union was a territory or colony to begin with, and they retained some autonomy and rights of self-governance when they joined. It’s that, that Obama is trying to squash so he can enforce his will.

State autonomy is one of the safeguards against total Federal control, which in autocratic hands like Obama’s would result in a Federal dictatorship. That’s exactly what he’s trying to accomplish, with him at the Federal helm. The American public is oblivious to this danger so I hope our state governors are aware of it and willing to confront it.

The EU is going totally the wrong way. Given different atitudes and affects, real democracy needs to be about local control on many issues. Your system in the US seems far better than ours.

Welfare in the UK would have been far better if we had just revised the poor laws we had in 1906 when it was all done locally. They could see who was deserving and who wasn’t.
