A Glimmer Of Light
Monday, February 25th, 2008A new survey has revealed that many Americans are leaving organized religion, sometimes for another faith but mostly for “unaffiliated”.
“The nation is still predominantly — 78 percent — Christian, but 5 percent are now adherents of other faiths and 16 percent are unaffiliated” and fully half of Americans have changed from one form of Christianity to another, mostly from Catholicism to Protestant and evangelical Protestant churches.
This is a good sign that a small part of the herd mentality is smartening up. The movement away from the Catholic Church is reasonable considering that it’s been revealed as a haven for homosexual child molesters. Certainly their scandals and massive legal problems and lawsuits can’t be expected to keep their members coming, and the church has been too inflexible anyway in the face of changing mores for many of its members.
The constant stream of scandals in Protestant/Evangelical churches hasn’t helped their cause either, as ministers are caught having sex in public bathrooms, getting rich from donations intended for good works, and so on.
Any sign that the American public can act in a thoughtful manner is a good sign. We used to be a nation of thinkers, with reasoned and considered opinions. Good to know we’re not completely hypnotized yet.

Your Leader. Here I am, eating grass. Pretty good grass. Do you like my ear tag? I wonder what it's for.
