I asked Google AI if the quality of meat has really badly degraded over just the past 2 or 3 years. Google AI responded: “It isn’t just you. Across consumer discussions and culinary circles, there is a widespread consensus that commercially available meat has changed. The shift is largely driven by industry changes prioritizing mass production and profit over traditional methods
Then it went on to describe the practices that have resulted in the truly serious degradation of the quality of meat, and not just in flavor and texture but in food value and safety. You actually might be healthier if you substituted tofu. Think on that one. They bred the cattle to mature faster to slaughter and no longer dry age the meat but pack it in bags of water to age instead, which all results in flavorless, mushy, water-soaked meat shot full of hormones and antibiotics.
Today, even the fish are all farmed, the only wild fish left in common supply at affordable prices is canned tuna, because tuna is actually a range of different related fish species that thrive in the ocean and would be nearly impossible to farm because they have such a wide feeding range.
All commercially farmed animals, pigs and chickens and fish, have been deprived of free ranging where they live off nature’s bounty, have free movement and eat a wide variety of foods. Instead they’re penned in and restricted in movement, often severely, so that they gain a lot of fat, and are fed a controlled diet designed for rapid weight gain. They’re processed solely for maximum profit with total disregard for flavor or food value, from the beginning of their lives to the weighed and sealed packages at the meat counter.
Why has it come to this for us who need good food to be healthy? It’s very simple. 8.3 billion people. 8,300,000,000 people. Eight point three times ten to the ninth people. To feed the burgeoning masses, the quality of the food must inevitably suffer in order to produce enough.
So now we have Bill Gates and others growing ersatz protein from cancer cells and farming crickets, and the specter of Soylent Green rises from the ancient archives of Hollywood films as a genuine possibility, as Planet Earth now circles a sun that’s sun-spotting and solar flaring Earth into the worst global El Nino drought in known history. Yes, it’s a fact. Food production is already way down. Shortage will empty the warehouses of what’s stored. That’s when the fun will really begin. 2026 is expected to be bad. 2027 is expected to be very bad.
The Main Stream Media isn’t going to tell you this because of the panic it would cause, but I don’t care about the panic, go ahead and panic, riot, loot and burn. You will anyway eventually, might as well get a good start on it now.
Yeah, I know, I keep harping on this crap but it’s real and valid crap, the world is way overpopulated and the tipping point has arrived when the meat tastes the same as chewing cardboard because quality NO LONGER MATTERS. Remember when taste and quality were the drivers of competition? That’s GONE! Now the stuff is crap, the price is unaffordable and fuck you if you can’t buy it, go eat the hens they slaughtered because the poor little egg factories were used up, it still tastes a little like chicken and even though it’s worthless it still puts something in your stomach, or go fill up on cheap starches. Anything for a meal.
Bit of a relief to learn that. I find things ain’t as nice as I remember them but assumed it was just me old senses fading away. Yer right about the world population. Population rise in the UK is mainly down to mass immigration but whatever the reason, more and more people makes anywhere a less desirable place to live, the crowded roads, the infrastructure and utilities that can’t keep up, the shortage of housing, the loss of lovely green spaces….
Nope, it really isn’t you, the meat and most veggies are flavorless. My inspiration for tomorrow is to post some pics of my young garden, which gave me the first garden salad of this season yesterday. Grow your own if you want healthy, delicious veggies.
