I posted on this a month ago, was going to let it go but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. It kept festering away inside me, you know how those things are, no doubt. I can be vengeful. Vengeance is sweet without fattening.
Yesterday morning, early, I tore down most of the 6 foot cedar fence I’d built 12 years ago because of the violent drunk who lived in the house below me. The new owner bought the place with a new fence built on his side of the line but since my parcel is higher and there’s a retaining wall between us that’s over 4 feet high, my fence is very visible. Or it was, anyway. So he came onto my property and painted my fence white on the side that faced him, to match his fence, without asking me. Naturally, this act of blatant disrespect really pissed me off and I took it out on the fence. On purpose, because it provided him with considerably more privacy by being there. Now I can stand on my deck and see everything that he’s doing when he’s outside but he can’t see me because of privacy screens I put up when the insane drunk lived there. This has to bother him. God I hope so, and a lot.
Then I called the power company and asked them to check on the safety of the power pole at the upper rear corner of our adjoining properties, because there’s 30 feet of retaining wall that’s been removed and the soil is falling away from the base of the pole due to the 5 foot drop from the base of it to the now exposed ground.
A worker for the power company called me back, said he was coming out to check it. I never saw anyone show up but today there’s been a regular beehive of activity next door, my neighbor and two other men speaking in loud voices and pacing nervously, which is probably not a coincidence. That retaining wall is entirely his responsibility, it’s removal has endangered that pole and my property, and the power company will force him to replace it. For one hell of a lot of money.
Meanwhile, there’s still an 8 foot section of cedar fence at the street end. His driveway is on one side, one of my two driveways is directly on the other side. Anyway, I’m trying to decide what color to paint it. The raging drunk built that fence portion, and mounted it with steel straps directly to the top of the retaining wall, so it’s mutually on both our parcels and I’m thinking of anything from a bright yellow to maybe lime green. Any suggestions?
